Aurelia reportAurelia was with from 28.4.-14.5.2012, her poetic report in english
A straight path stretches before me.
On my left the greens of a forest,
on my right a mighty river, steadily flowing, like it has been for centuries.
In a moment of weariness I wish for the river’s ease, its unchanging support by gravity on its journey that is still thousands of kilometers to go, its patience and un-hurriedness.
It doesn’t need to get anywhere, for it has already arrived. In this very moment it is springing from its source, collecting and transporting water from half over Europe and it is releasing itself into the vast ocean. All at the same time. In a split second.
Here and now.
The scenery moves up and down with the steady rhythm of my steps.
My feet hurt. My back hurts, my backpack is getting heavier by the minute, my strength less.
My steps don’t seem to get me anywhere.
The path seems endless.
I take a look at the clouds above me.
They move in a different direction than I do.
Suddenly, it feels like I’m moving very fast… a particle moving , embedded in a layer of earth and a layer of sky.
I feel immensely small and insignificant… and yet, it feels like every step I take sets the entire universe in to motion.
I become the river.
The river becomes me.
All my ideas about this journey crumble before my feet until there is nothing left but the the very next step.
One step.
A step as insignificant and as meaningful as anything
humans have ever done.
